Mitsubishi Electric Heating & Cooling Ductless System
Problem
This nontraditional, two-story home has been a challenge to heat efficiently and cost effectively for the 30 years that Jill has owned it. She had expensive electric baseboard heat and with no ductwork, central air wasn’t an option and casement windows throughout the home, made window a/c units impossible.
Solution
Goodco designed a six-zone ductless heat pump system that provided a cost-effective heating solution for the homeowner as well as the added benefit of air conditioning. The Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat ductless system consisted of two outdoor units and six interior units – one for each identified zone area. Now, Jill is able to individually control each of the areas of her 2400 sq. ft. home to keep it at the ideal temperature year-round.
The Story
Built in 1987, Jill’s two-story house adopted a reverse layout, placing all of the bedrooms on the lower level while the living areas are located upstairs. While the baseboard heat warmed the house during the winter, no air conditioning system was ever installed to offset Pennsylvania’s humid summer season. Because the homeowner’s house exclusively features casement windows, Jill was never able to use window air conditioning units. Instead, she resorted to noisy and inadequate fans.
After reviewing all of her options, Jill decided it was time to call the Goodco team. The Good Guys did a free evaluation on Jill’s house. Because of the finished ceilings on the lower floor and the vaulted ceilings in the main upper living area, it was nearly impossible to install any ductwork in the house. The team opted to install two separate 3-zone Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat Heat Pumps in order to effectively heat and cool Jill’s 2400 square foot home. The Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat system requires no ductwork while still providing the air conditioning that Jill desperately wanted.
With two 3-zone Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat systems, six indoor units were inconspicuously mounted on interior walls. One unit was placed in each of the three bedrooms, while the other three interior units were placed in the living room, kitchen, and music room. This design allowed for maximum individual comfort and utility usage control.
The System
Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat systems are the ultimate HVAC solution for both heating and cooling. Unlike conventional heat pumps, the Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat Heat Pump operates efficiently at temperatures as low as -13°F without the need for backup heat. Each system remains reliable and effective, keeping homes warm in the cold winter months and cool during the humid summer season, while reducing energy bills.
This homeowner got rid of her original baseboard electric heat as her new Mitsubishi system performs as her primary heat source and adds air conditioning to her entire home. And a bonus to the homeowner is the fact that Mitsubishi systems are whisper quiet!
Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat systems are ENERGY STAR® certified, making them eligible for local utility rebates. This level of efficiency ultimately cuts energy costs for the homeowner, giving her even more savings every month. Mitsubishi ductless systems offer advanced air filtration as well, removing particulates and contaminants from the air. For homeowners with asthma and allergies, this is a huge advantage!
As always with ductless system installations, slim duct was also used on the outside of the home running refrigerant piping from the outdoor unit to the two indoor units. Slim duct is available in different shades so that the homeowner can choose the one that best matches the exterior of her home.
As the only Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Elite Contractor in Central Pennsylvania, Goodco has installed over 1,200 Mitsubishi ductless systems in the past 6 years. It’s safe to say we know the nuances of installing these technical systems correctly and we’ve seen many customers reap the benefits of these super-efficient systems.
