Mitsubishi Electric Hybrid System – ductless units with Air Handler

Problem

Chuck and Mary Moore own a two-story, 60-year-old home with an oil-forced air furnace and air conditioner unit. In the summer, the upstairs never really cooled. The airflow from the basement to the upstairs was inadequate, leaving the Moores with limited cooling to the top floor. In addition, they were tired of the oil smell from their current furnace.

Solution

Through proper testing, Goodco determined that the size of the existing HVAC system in the Moore’s home was insufficient for the square footage, thus the lack of cooling on the second floor. The Good Guys installed two Mitsubishi Electric ductless heat pump units in separate rooms upstairs and disconnected the ductwork. They replaced oil furnace with a Mitsubishi Electric air handler which would provide heat and air conditioning to the rest of the house.

The Story

After living with an oil-forced air system for years, and on top of that, one that didn’t get the job done, the Moore’s decided it was time to get serious about a new heating and cooling system for their Centre County home. They called Goodco for an estimate.

Goodco assessed the entire home – from square footage, to the capacity of the existing systems the Moores had. They discovered that there was limited ductwork to the upstairs, which resulted in inadequate air flow. In addition, the thermostat that controlled the entire house was located downstairs – not allowing for temperature differences in various parts of the home.

To address the issues in the most cost-effective way, Goodco divided the home into separate zones, allowing for customized heating & cooling solutions for each area, depending on usage. Goodco disconnected the ductwork to the second floor and installed two Mitsubishi Electric ductless units, one in the office and another in a bedroom. This created two separate zones, allowing the Moores to heat and cool those rooms only when in use. The wall units were whisper quiet and came with remote control capability, so managing them was easy and convenient.

For the remainder of the house, Goodco removed the Moore’s oil furnace and replaced it with a powerful, efficient, and quiet Mitsubishi Electric air handler – which would utilize the existing ductwork throughout the home. This all-in-one system provided a highly efficient heating and cooling system and was properly sized for the downstairs zone.

The hybrid design of ductless units and a high-efficiency air handler from Mitsubishi Electric Heating and Cooling provided the perfect solution for the Moores. Now, they’re comfortable year-round, with no oil fumes, not to mention the cost of oil heat.

The System

Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat systems are the ultimate HVAC solution for both heating and cooling. Unlike traditional heat pumps, the Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat Heat Pump operates efficiently at temperatures as low as -13°F without the need for backup heat. Each system remains reliable and effective, keeping homes warm in the cold winter months and cool during the humid summer season, while reducing energy bills.

Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat systems are ENERGY STAR® certified, making them eligible for local utility rebates. This level of efficiency ultimately cuts energy costs for homeowners, giving them even more savings every month. Mitsubishi ductless systems offer advanced air filtration as well, removing particulates and contaminants from the air. For homeowners with asthma and allergies, this is a huge advantage!

As the only Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Elite Contractor in Central Pennsylvania, Goodco has installed over 1,500 Mitsubishi ductless systems in the past 6 years. It’s safe to say we know the nuances of installing these technical systems correctly and we’ve seen many customers reap the benefits of these super-efficient systems.
